How we work
Halcyon is a group of passionate artists who charge hourly session rates based on their education, experience, specialities, craft, and demand. We are all about transparency here, and believe that should apply to pricing, too.
What is hourly pricing?
Creating hair and makeup looks we see on Instagram takes time, care and more skill than it used to 10 years ago when all we did was highlights and global colours. Times have changed.

It's transparent. It includes all of our services, regardless of what service you're getting. It's all inclusive, NO HIDDEN COSTS.

It's fair. Your hair may take us 1 hour to create the look you are after, or it may take us 3. You pay the time you are in our chair. A guest who takes less time to complete the look they are after pay less, and a guest who takes more time to create their look will pay more. Simple as that.

It's gender-neutral, gender-affirming, promote inclusivity, age-neutral.

Charging hourly stops us from becoming overworked and underpaid.
Each Session is tailored to fit your unique hair and makeup needs.
Book for our time, not specific services. We work with-in your budget and hair desires to create your hair journey. Your artist will create a bespoke hair plan that they can accomplish during the service time booked.
The choice of one-on-one time with your artist or a collaboration between artist and alchemist is yours.
Services we provide include cutting, colouring, blonding, balayage, colour transformations, event styling and makeup, and prescriptive hair and scalp treatments.
We require all new or 'after a change' colour clients to have an in-depth consultation, scalp and strand testing before the hair booking time to ensure we allocate enough time to create your hair desires.
Average Session Times
1 hour - haircut or blow wave*
*add haircut or blow wave time to ALL of the following
1 hour - root retouch
2 hours - solid colour
2 hours - some highlights
3 hours - highlights everywhere
3 hours - roots plus dimension on ends
3 hours - blonding or balayage
3-6 hours - transformation, blonding, vivid, creative colour.

All session times are a guideline and subject to change based on consultation, hair type, creative involvement, and unexpected colour challenges.
Hourly Rates
Kerry - $120 per hour
Kyla - $120 per hour
Nikita - $100 per hour
Emerging Stylist - $80 per hour
We include a $3 contribution as a commitment to sustainable salons on going mission to reuse, recycle and repurpose our waste.

Our team of specialists work collaboratively, with each other and you. We're proud to work in Invercargill - because you shouldn't have to go to a big city to have beautiful hair.
We love what we do and we are bloody good at it. We listen carefully, ask loads of questions and love when you trust us to create something incredible that perfectly suits you. We're holistic - your hair's health is just one part of the equation.
Halcyon also cares about our environment footprint. Our products are sustainable and eco-friendly, with minimal packaging and traceable providence.
We're part of the Sustainable Salons New Zealand network and recycle 95 percent of our waste. We use low ammonia or ammonia-free colours. Essentially, we're conscious consumers and our guests are, too.
